19.Feb.2012 Youth Bows Archery

Beginning Archery help? ?
I’m a teenager that would like to take up archery, but not for hunting! Anyway, what type of Arrows should I get if I’m worried about safety? I want a Recurve Bow but should I start out with one of those youth archery sets from walmart with safety glass arrows for practice first? Would those Bows be too small for me since they’re made for younger kids and probably have a short draw length? And safety glass arrows ARE by all means actually safe right? Just in case I miss. I’d like to try and practice on my own since lessons won’t start till may. What Bow And Arrow would be best for someone like me?
You want a regulation-sized bow. A 30 lb draw is not too much for a normal healthy teenager. Don’t get a Compound Bow or anything too fancy to start with, just a standard bow. Arrows are usually fiberglass these days, I think they’re better than wood because they don’t warp. The points on the arrows are called ‘piles’, and you start out with ‘target piles’ which aren’t really that dangerous (but still plenty dangerous, so be careful!) You also need a gizmo, I think it’s called a glove, it just covers your three fingers so you don’t tear them up when releasing the string. And another gizmo you wear on your left forearm in case the string slaps it (that can be painful!)
It might be nice to start with some actual instruction. I took a class in archery in jr. college–you had to register for one PE class so I took bowling, archery, and social dancing. 8^) You might get into a class at the local community college, just to get you started.
At first you have to get your stance down pat–where you put your feet, how you hold your arms, how you sight down the arrow, etc. Once you find what you’re comfortable with, you do that all the time. You pull the arrow back to your cheek or your chin and sight over the point. You see where the first arrow goes, then aim at a point opposite the bullseye from that point.
